A DAY AT THE LOUVRE

On Friday we decided to spend the day at the Louvre.  In the past, we kind of rush through the three wings, however, this time we wanted to concentrate on the Denon wing.  One of the most famous works here is the Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci. This is a photo of Mike, Elaine and Mona Lisa.

“Winged Victory of Samothrace” also known as the “Nike of Samothrace,” one of the most famous sculptures in the world, sits in its place of importance at the top of the staircase.  The 2nd century BC marble sculpture of Nike the Greek goddess has been at the Louvre since 1884.

I was in awe just walking from room to room inside the Louvre.  It is really an immense, beautiful and amazing place.

It turned out to be such a damp, cold afternoon that we decided to take a taxi back to the apartment.  From the back seat of the taxi I took this photo of the Eiffel Tower. To enlarge any photo just click on it.

    Hi Elaine!
I love your blog…it’s wonderful! I remember a few years back having a conversation with you and Mike about how much Phil & I loved Paris….it’s so amazing that Mike never wanted to go. With all the great places that you have visited, I do remember saying to you both how much you would love Paris. It is the only place that Phil & I could live there and love so much. You are living my dream!! Aren’t you so glad that you and Noreen finally convinced him! I love reading your blog, it makes me feel like I am truly there again!! Keep on sending me your beautiful notes of the days spent in Paris, I really love it and can’t wait to hear of your next escapade in France!
Love you…and enjoy every second…as I know you do!! Please light a candle for me in Notre Dame so I get better! I might have to have surgery for my back…it’s up to me to get it done…but I’m afraid. I’m praying for a healing miracle!!
Love to you and Mike….tell him to have a macaroon for me!!!!

    • Dear Marianne,
Thanks so much for your lovely comment. Yes, it was back in 2001 we made our first trip over. Have been coming to Europe now every year since then, it is now 10 years. Been to Paris 5 times now. You remember correctly how tough it was to get Mike to want to cross the pond originally, but now he loves Paris as much as you, Phil & I do. it is such a special place and romantic place. I am so glad you are enjoying keeping up with us as a lot will be familiar to you. Thanks again,
      Sincerely Elaine
